A Thanksgiving Tree

A Thanksgiving Tree

Thanksgiving often gets neglected, sandwiched as it is between Halloween and a super-commercialized Christmas. Take a moment to remind yourself why we celebrate this holiday, and put together a memorable centerpiece at the same time.

  • twigs and branches
  • a bucket, flower pot or vase deep enough to hold the branches upright
  • colored cardstock cut into leaf shapes (you can also purchase pre-cut leaf shapes at a craft or scrap booking stores)
  • a hole punch
  • several feet of inch ribbon, in a coordinating color, cut into segments approximately 3 inches long
  • a black fine-tip marker

Arrange the twigs and branches in the vase or container (you may have to use florist's foam if the pot isn't deep enough). Punch a hole at the top of each leaf, thread a pre-cut piece of ribbon through it, then the tie the ribbon ends together into a knot. Use the pen to write down one thing you're thankful for on each leaf, and hang all the leaves on the branches. The result is simple and pretty.

Consider making the tree with your dinner guests or children (and keep the leaves from year to year--it's fun to remember what your teenager was thankful for when he was three).
